Being charged with a criminal offence can be particularly stressful if you are under the age of 18. The Youth Criminal Justice Act is a complex piece of legislation that exists to give particular protections to young people in the criminal justice system. It ensures that people under 18 are treated fairly and that their experience in the system reflects their level of maturity and life experience.
We adopt the same approach to our advocacy for our youth clients. We have extensive experience assisting clients as young as 12 years of age and helping them through a difficult time. It is absolutely essential to us that we interact with our youth clients in a way that they understand and so that they feel like they are being given an active role in their defence.
It is most common for our youth clients to be funded by legal aid. Special procedures exist in court to ensure that young people have representation by counsel.
Talk to us today about your case, big or small. Helping young people come out on the other side of the criminal justice system is a particular passion of our firm, and we are happy to discuss our approach free of charge.
